ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION BREAKS THE BACK OF FLORIDA HOSPITAL(S)

Martin Memorial Medical Center in Stuart Florida is indicative of 51 other Florida community hospitals who are also financially struggling or failing and who are facing bankruptcy due to the high cost of treating illegal immigrants (and paying ludicrous illegal alien lawsuit financial settlements) - that vast majority of which never pay for the medical treatment they or their family receives.

Stuart Florida geographical area has many typcial red flags that hospital and city administrators should have seen as a reason for the hospital's pending bankruptcy.

1) Nearby Jupiter Florida is considered a "sanctuary city"  whose pro illegal anti law enforcement policies were recently exposed by a Florida lawman.

2)The local St. Peter Catholic Church encourages and supports illegal immigration into the area.

3) A taxpayer funded "hiring hall" was opened in Jupiter Florida - with the encouragement of the Catholic Charities & against the wishes of local citizens (video here) . Thus they city provided a taxpayer funded site for lawbreakers - (that the community would likely never consider or fund for their own American teenagers) and produced a draw for even more illegals to move into the Martin Memorial Hospital area:

"The El Sol Neighborhood Resource Center was the town's solution for stopping ''migrant workers'' from lining the streets each day to wait for employers to drive by and hire them. Sometimes as many as 100 ''day laborers'' gathered each morning. Neighborhood residents complained they blocked traffic, scared people and created a public nuisance. So, backed by legal opinions that said the center did not violate any laws, the town of Jupiter bought a building next to town hall and the police station for $1.9 million and encouraged Catholic Charities, along with the migrant advocacy group Corn Maya and community volunteers, to lease it for $1 a year, reports the South Florida Sun-Sentinel."

4) Florida (an other US states) agricultural businesses, such as citrus and sugar growers, balk at having to go through the steps for legal immigrant "guest worker" labor and providing transportation, housing, etc for legal laborers. Thus they seem to prefer to continue attracting and hiring cheap illegal immigrant labor. But they also feel increasingly compelled to go the "legal" route since illegal immigration has become a "hot button issue".

Goldstein estimated that U.S. agriculture companies have 2.5 million foreign workers, about 60 percent of whom are illegal....Local (FL) citrus growers who have recently begun using H-2A agreed that, despite the burden of red tape, the program is the only viable alternative (from using illegal immigrants) for recruiting a stable labor force....

5) According to CBS news - across the USA there are at least 300,000 "anchor babies" born each year - clearly many of these babies are born - without payment to hospitals - and ultimately at taxpayer's expense. Florida hospitals undoubtedly are affected. Also "the latest estimated costs of educating the children of illegal aliens, many of whom were anchor babies,  is out and it is set at an astounding $28.6 billion per year to the taxpayers of the United States. - Floridian taxpayers are undoubtedly paying their "fair" share.

A recent Rasmussen survey shows that American's opinion, toward illegal immigration, has little changed since last year's overwhelming public rejection of the proposed McCain Kennedy (amnesty) legislation. "63% believe that border security is more important than amnesty". Americans still overwhelmingly welcome LEGAL immigrants. Yet, there is plenty of outrage at illegal immigrants who flagrantly break US laws as well as many produce anchor babies who allow them to tap into taxpayer paid welfare benefits.

The cost of illegal immigration is high - see here and the cost of jailing illegal immigrants for both immigration status as well as crimes committed other than violation of immigration laws is astronomical - a quick search will produce countless states and cities that are buckling under the cost of illegal alien incarceration.

Why should more taxpayer be further penalized by having to provide their hard earned money to be used to bail out Florida hospitals? Especially when the crisis is directly caused by the clear dereliction of duty of the localities city officials who refused to demand that US immigration laws be enforced?  Many like Marco Rubio, below, want to hide the deleterious effects of rampant illegal immigration. It should also be noted that the illegal immigrant is not faultless. The vast majority are adults who willingly and knowingly break US laws to sneak into the USA consistently do not want to take responsibility for their own bad choices. So again the question is asked - why should we?

Feds Ignore Hospital’s Illegal Immigrant Reports

A Florida hospital administrator whose facility is overwhelmed with the exorbitant cost of treating illegal immigrants told state lawmakers that federal authorities usually ignore when the hospital reports illegal immigrants.

Testifying before a state House committee, the frustrated Martin Memorial Medical Center official also told legislators that the hospital has spent more than a quarter of a million dollars to fight a lawsuit from an uninsured illegal immigrant returned to his native country after racking up a $1.5 million bill.

The lawsuit has further burdened the south Florida facility already overwhelmed with sick and uninsured illegal immigrants. It involves a Guatemalan Mayan farm worker who was hospitalized for 3 ½ years at the Stuart facility with severe brain injuries sustained in a car wash.

After receiving a judge’s permission, the hospital put him on a plane back to Guatemala in 2003 and it has been fighting a costly legal battle since. The case was appealed in 2006 and is still pending in south Florida’s Martin County. This means the hospital’s legal bills will continue mounting.

The facility has also spent a substantial amount of money treating a brain damaged illegal immigrant from Mexico for the past two years and officials estimate that half of the 2,170 births last year were to illegal immigrants. That, of course, means no insurance and no money to pay for the costly medical tab.

The recent House testimony got practically no media coverage and was attended by only a few people at the state capitol in Tallahassee. After all, Florida’s House Speaker, Marco Rubio, is an ardent defender of illegal immigrants who certainly doesn’t want to publicize the dark side of illegal immigration or the huge toll it’s having on his state.

THE POPULATION JIHAD

Whilst the threat of Islamist terrorism takes up much of the Western world's attention, dialogue, security preparedness and fears the true threat of Islam comes from a mass of people whose polygamous life style is conducive to massive overpopulation. While our Western leaders ponder what newer bigger and better safety measures can be installed - placing CC cameras in every possible location to document our mundane daily activities and pull bottles of "threatening" hand creme from our airport luggage -  these same leaders stand with our borders wide open and encourage the full scale muslim colonization of our countries.

Indeed, the greatest threat, as the below article states, is the consistent drum beat of muslim immigration into the Western countries aided and abeted by our politicians and leaders lefty policies of multiculturalism and of extended family reunification. At no other time in history has it been easier and more comforatable for muslims to enter the UK (and other Western countries) and immediately partake of the taxpayer paid social benefits. In fact, multiculturalism has actually place muslims in a position of receiving preferential treatment over and above the indigenous population.(a few examples here , here , here )The British, and other Western countries, are expected to bow down and worship at the altar of multiculturalism all whilst sacrificing British/Western culture and traditions at this same altar.  Hand in hand with multiculturalism came the perpetually overused club of racism - thus anyone who speaks out against muslim over-immigration is immediately silenced and pilloried with accusations of being "racist". It's become un-politically correct to speak about the muslim colonisation happening right under our "stiff upper lips".

Finally an author has the courage to speak and write what is actually occurring - along with warnings that such overpopulation by the muslims will most definitely lead to the Isalmisation of Europe/West. Too many Westerners bought into the "
zero population growth" particularly popular back in the 1970s. Westerners were made to feel it was our duty to lessen the death march of overpopulation - to do our part for the world.  Yes - the majority of us did -- and now the consequences are that other regions, particularly the Middle East, continued to overpopulate whilst the Western world population stagnated or dwindled.  Now the same lefty leaders and university elites, that guilted us into having smaller families, tell us that we "need" rampant immigration to survive. Unfortunately, it is clear that our traditions and cultures will NOT survive.

The looming question is whether or not it is the obligation of the West to absorb the world's poor - can we afford to do so both culturally and economically?

The even more ominous stark reality is it appears we no longer are given a choice.

The population explosion on Europe’s doorstep

The Duke of Edinburgh had a point when he warned of overpopulation. The countries growing fastest are our Islamic neighbours, says a novelist

A group of babies

In a televised interview with Sir Trevor McDonald last week, the Duke of Edinburgh cited “overpopulation” as the prime source of escalating food prices. Another gaffe! “Overpopulation” dropped out of usage in the 1970s, and the deluded old coot doesn’t seem to realise that the term is passé. Or is it?

Helping to make “overpopulation” a buzz word of his era, Paul Ehrlich observed in his 1968 bestseller The Population Bomb that by 8000BC it had taken the human race about 1m years to double in number. Yet when he published his alarmist book, world population was 3.5 billion, and the doubling time was down to 35 years.

“If growth continued at that rate for about 900 years, there would be some 60 million billion people on the face of the Earth,” he warned. “This is about 100 persons for each square yard of the Earth’s surface, land and sea.”

Well, what a load of hooey. (Even Ehrlich then conceded that he was being fanciful.) According to current United Nations projections, world population is expected to reach 9.2 billion by 2050, peaking soon afterward at only 9.8 billion.

Expectations colour perception. Compared with the idea of sharing one square yard with 99 of our closest friends, a world inhabited by “only” 9.8 billion people seems perfectly pleasant. Yet that is nearly half again as much company as we already enjoy. Try getting into a small lift with nine other passengers and then asking “only” five more to join you. Try telling a host who’s preparing a dinner for 10 that you’ve just invited “only” five more guests, and you’ll probably get a pie in the face.

Most of us who remember Ehrlich’s book have long since dismissed it for stirring hysteria. Yet in some respects he was almost right: he predicted that world population would double in 35 years, and in 40 years it has indeed almost doubled – from 3.5 billion to 6.7 billion in 2007. So why does Prince Philip’s invocation of “overpopulation” seem so anachronistic, so unfashionable?

Because the term no longer applies to the West. In the 1960s the threat of “overpopulation” applied to virtually every country in the world, all of whose populations were expanding – if at different rates. From 1971, however, western fertility plummeted. Europe has been underreproducing for decades: its total fertility rate (TFR) – the average number of children a woman bears in her lifetime – is 1.5, well below the 2.1 required to replace the people already here.

Meanwhile, with a current TFR of 2.9 , the population of poorer nations keeps rising. Virtually all of the 2.5 billion extra people on our guest list will arrive in the Third World (aka “undeveloped”, “underdeveloped” or “developing” nations, or recently “the south” – when people keep shifting their terminology, be sure that there’s something politically scary in the vicinity).

Now viewed as a judgmental word that applies exclusively to nonwestern countries, “overpopulation” has become racially, religiously and ethnically sticky, and thus totally uncool. For decades no one in the population field has touched the word “overpopulation” with a bargepole.

It’s time to come clean: I am a demography junkie. My perverse obsession began when I was 16, when I spent a full semester of high school researching population growth. I revisited the fascination in my fourth novel, Game Control. In what I hope is a wicked satire, a demographic zealot plans to nip runaway population growth in the bud by murdering two billion people overnight. The premise may sound outlandish but the nonfiction underpinnings of the text were carefully researched. Furthermore, the graph of human population through the ages – meandering virtually horizontal at the bottom of the page for hundreds of thousands of years and then spiking almost vertically over the past century like a polygraph needle when the subject tells a whopper – illustrates that, in population biology, fact itself is more outlandish than anything I might make up.

Why have I been entranced by population, of all things? I have my theories. I grew up in a religious, left-leaning American household that tyrannised my childhood with guilt. Before we ate, we had to pray for hungry Chinese peasants, and then we had to clean our plates for the starving Armenians (long dead, but no one told me). Everything nice that we had we were supposed to feel bad about; and I was required to give 10 cents of my 25c weekly allowance (that’s about 12p) to charity. So I think I resented all these poor people for whom I was supposed to feel sorry. They were a burden. Then I discovered that there were going to be more and more of them. Just because they had large families, I was going to have to feel even worse and give away more of my allowance.

In adulthood I’ve come to appreciate how many other problems are fuelled by population growth, from environmental degradation to disease. All roads lead to demography. Besides, there’s nothing boring about statistics if you have an imagination and some sense of what they mean.

My interest was reignited in 2003 by an article in Population and Development Review. The journal’s editor, Paul Demeny, compared the population projections for Yemen – a Muslim country about the size of France – and Russia, which is 30 times bigger. In 1950 Russia had 103m people, Yemen 4.3m – meaning there were 24 Russians for every Yemeni. By 2000 Russia had 145m people, and Yemen 17.5m – that’s about eight Russians for every Yemeni. Proportionally, a few more Yemenis; no big deal.

Alas, Russian men drink too much. Their life expectancy is 60. Worse, Russian women are not having many babies: by 2000 Russia’s total fertility rate was a miserable 1.2. Demeny revealed that even though UN figures assumed Russian fertility would rise by 50% – awfully optimistic – the country’s population in 2050 was still expected to contract back to 1950 levels of about 104m. Meanwhile, although UN figures also assumed that fertility in Yemen would fall by half, Yemen’s population in 2050 was expected to rise to 102m.

That’s right: in a little more than 40 years, the population of Russia could be met and overtaken by that of Yemen. Which has only 3% arable land and is mostly desert.

If Russia versus Yemen is an extreme case, the broader picture is equally sobering. Demeny went on to compare the populations of 25 European nations to the 25 nations in what he called Europe’s “southern hinterland”: the Asian and north African countries surrounding this continent. Check out the UN population projections in 2000 (see panel).

Honey, I shrunk the continent: Europe is contracting. On the other hand, over the course of only 100 years north Africa, western Asia and the Middle East are set to multiply eightfold. Throw into the mix the fact that all those countries are Muslim, and politically you have one sizzling hot potato.

Why should any of this matter to us? Well, let’s count the ways:

Immigration Legal or illegal, we haven’t seen anything yet. If we add in all of Africa – from which significant numbers emigrate to Europe – we can expect by 2050 to have 2.7 billion relatively poor, heavily unemployed and perhaps increasingly desperate people on Europe’s doorstep.

Since most of them cannot afford a ticket on American Airlines, they will migrate to wealthy countries nearby to which they can swim, walk or ride by stowing away on a lorry. And never mind protecting European borders or tightening the laws. Desperate people are resourceful people; just because you’re poor doesn’t mean you’re not smart.

Food and fuel pricesThe recent spikes in both have admittedly been fed by a variety of factors, but one of them is demand. That demand will keep rising with increased population, and so will prices.

Climate change The addition of three billion people, many of whom may aspire to a middle-class western lifestyle, will turn feeble carbon-reduction efforts – recycling yoghurt pots, biking to work – into a joke. If you care about green issues, ipso facto you should care about population.

Political instability and reduced social cohesion Inexorably high immigration rates from neighbouring Muslim countries are likely to transform the ethnic and religious composition of this continent. Happily, it may soon be possible to get an excellent falafel on any street corner in Europe. But if younger generations in countries such as Egypt continue to become more fundamentalist and more politically radicalised than their parents, terrorism could rise.

WaterThere isn’t enough of it. In his level-headed book How Many People Can the Earth Support?, Professor Joel Cohen identifies water as the ultimate limiting factor on human population. Even if it were evenly distributed throughout the world – which it is not – the human race would be expected to run out of fresh water when the global population reached about nine billion – a figure we are now set substantially to exceed.

Power Europe initially rose to political and military dominance in tandem with a rising population. With a dropping population, its influence will probably wane.

Is this little more than racist, xenophobic claptrap? I don’t think so. Current population levels are facts. Population projections are mathematical extrapolations from facts. Certainly, you can fiddle with the assumptions underlying the projections and come up with wildly different numbers, and historically the accuracy of demographic prediction has been pretty dismal. (Case in point: only four years after Demeny published his comparison of Yemen and Russia, the UN nearly halved its projected 2050 population for Yemen from 102m to 58m. Yet, Demeny tells me, “there are many more Yemens”: the population of Egypt will exceed Russia’s well before 2050.)

Numbers do not have prejudices. Europe is dwindling. Its immediate Muslim neighbours are still having large families, and their populations are continuing to grow. Make of that what you will. It is not BNP propaganda; it’s just the way things are.

The Duke of Edinburgh may not have employed the trendiest vocabulary but he’s not suffering from undiagnosed dementia. Whatever you call it, the threat of overpopulation is back and here to stay – because it never really went away. This could be a good time to start learning Arabic.

SOMALIAN ASYLUM SEEKER BRINGS DRUG RESISTANT TB INTO UK

There is NO doubt that Great Britain is under attack - attack from microorganisms that have accessed the country via rampant immigration and the
surge of asylum seekers. Recently Gordon Brown stated that the greatest threat to the UK could be a pandemic- but what he did not say is that pandemic may very well BEGIN in Great Britain.

It has already been discovered that London is a hotbed for TB: "A leading TB consultant has warned an "inexorable rise" in tuberculosis will continue unless more specialist nurses are put in place. London is now a TB "hotspot" with nearly half of all UK cases occurring in the capital -- around 3,000 each year -- double the total of 15 years ago. TB cases have jumped by nearly 20% in England and Wales over the last two years, but London in particular is under threat from the bacterial disease, which is more commonly found in developing countries." for more on this go here.

Foreign travel and immigration were also the concern of the UK's goverment's chief medical advisor:

"Increased foreign travel and rising immigration are bringing a host of dangerous tropical illnesses to the UK, the government's chief medical advisor has warned. ......Professor Donaldson has also recommended action to tackle the re-emergence of TB, often in drug-resistant forms, in the UK, as well as the recent rise in the number of people becoming infected with HIV." For the rest of this article go
here.

Immigration initiated diseases are a concern, not only for the UK, but also the USA - see
here. and undoubtedly other European countries that also are inundated with immigrants and asylum seekers -including many from Libya.

The National Health Service is already stretched beyond maximum to deal with the "normal" health needs of hundreds of thousands of illegal and legal immigrants and asylum seekers that have flooded into the UK in the past 5 years.

Isn't it obvious that NOW is the much needed and legitimate time to institute a moratorium on all immigration - to allow the health services to get these "imported" diseases under control? And to protect the British people from Gordon Brown's touted and feared pandemic?

'Untreatable TB' arrives in Britain

by Simon Johnson

Doctors have diagnosed what is believed to be the first ever case in Britain of a virtually untreatable strain of tuberculosis.

A man, believed to be a Somali in his 30s, is in isolation at a hospital in Scotland and being treated with a range of antibiotics to control the disease.

But he has been diagnosed with the XDR-TB strain, which kills half of those infected and is extremely resistant to drugs used to fight more common forms of the infection.

Domestic cases of tuberculosis, an airborne disease which is spread though close contact with other people, are increasing but it is thought this is the first time the most deadly type has been found in this country.

It is understood the patient, thought to be an asylum seeker, was screened for infectious diseases on his arrival into Britain last year.

X-rays revealed TB scarring on his lungs, but the disease was not thought to be active so he was allowed to travel to Scotland.

He was admitted to Gartnavel General Hospital in Glasgow with the disease in January and tests have now revealed he is suffering from the XDR-TB strain.

Health officials are now trying to contact his close friends and family to prevent any further outbreaks.

A spokesman for Gartnavel General Hospital said last night: “We can confirm a case of drug-resistant tuberculosis is being treated at the hospital.

“We are in touch with all close contacts of the patient, and where appropriate they will be screened.

“The strain is not any more infectious than normal TB. The main concern is that it is resistant to antibiotics, which makes it much harder to treat.”

The first case of XDR-TB was reported in March 2006, after researchers discovered an emerging global threat of highly resistant TB strains. Six months later 53 “virtually untreatable” XDR-TB cases were found in an area of South Africa with a high prevalence of HIV.

Samples were taken for drug resistance tests but all but one of the patients died an average of 25 days later.

TB drug resistance has been increasing across the world, including Britain, and the World Health Organisation warns more needs to be done to combat the disease.

Professor Peter Davis, secretary of TB Alert in the UK, said: “We are aware that it is quite prevalent in other parts of the world. Because our country is no longer separated from disease by the channel, we have got to be aware of it.”

TAKE MY WIVES PLEASE! POLYGAMY HEADS TO THE WESTERN WORLD

Excellent article from Pajamas Media- that I wanted to pass-along

Take My Wives, Please: Polygamy Heads West

The emergent phenomenon of Muslim men taking multiple wives should be a cause for worry in the Western world, warns David J. Rusin.

By David J. Rusin

Myra Morton approached her sleeping husband on the morning of August 5, 2007, with pain in her heart and a gun in her hand. Once the smoke had cleared at the couple’s upscale home just outside Philadelphia, a man would lay dead, a family secret would be exposed, and a spotlight would shine on the emergent phenomenon of Islamic polygamy in the Western world.

The slaying took place just hours before Jereleigh Morton was scheduled to leave for Morocco on a mission to impregnate his other wife, Zahra Toural. Niqab-clad Myra, a convert to Islam two decades earlier, acceded to his bond with the younger woman, whom he had met online in late 2006. Privately, however, the 47-year-old mother was shattered, recording her dismay in a journal and lamenting to friends that she no longer received attention. Myra even mailed a letter to immigration officials falsely claiming that Toural had terrorist ties and should thus be prohibited from entering the country. Her husband’s plan to conceive is apparently what sent her over the edge.

Islam did not kill Jereleigh Morton; Myra Morton did. She bears full responsibility for her brutal deed and should be punished accordingly. Regardless of the circumstances, murder is anathema to Western legal and moral standards. Yet so too is polygamy. Recent evidence, however, indicates that governments tend to look the other way as the conjugal mores of seventh-century Arabia — and the problems that travel with them — take root in our backyards. Just as Myra Morton faces justice in a court of law, these drowsy cultural watchdogs must be made to answer in the court of public opinion.

The prevalence of polygamy among Muslims living in the West remains a matter of debate. Here is a sampling of what has been reported: As many as thirty thousand Muslim families in France include more than one wife. There are fifteen thousand in Italy and several thousand in Great Britain. Estimates for the United States typically run into the tens of thousands. Even Australia has been forced to crack down on Muslim men looking to meet potential second wives via the internet.

Individual cases often come to light unexpectedly through high-impact media events such as the Morton saga. Another example is the tragic Bronx house fire that killed ten people on March 7, 2007. Moussa Magassa, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Mali who lost five of his children in the blaze, was discovered to have two wives living a floor apart. A subsequent investigation by the New York Times found polygamy to be an open secret in his immigrant community, with agencies that serve it adhering to a policy of “don’t ask, don’t tell.”

Lack of official curiosity is just one reason for the poor statistics. Practitioners also labor to avoid scrutiny. Two strategies are common. Some Muslim men with additional wives living abroad arrange for relatives to sponsor visas that can bring them to the West without raising red flags. Others find second, third, or even fourth wives locally, sealing the deal in a nikah ceremony conducted by an imam. Because such marriages are performed under the state’s radar and have no legal standing, the wives enjoy none of the rights guaranteed to spousal partners.

Concern about Islamic polygamy — whether in the West or East — has naturally been dismissed in some quarters as cultural imperialism. For example, Duke University professor Miriam Cooke argues that “polygamy can be liberating and empowering.” As Kay Hymowitz explains in City Journal, “Some women, [Cooke] continued, are relieved when their husbands take a new wife: they won’t have to service him so often. Or they might find they now have the freedom to take a lover. But, I ask, wouldn’t that be dangerous in places where adulteresses can be stoned to death? At any rate, how common is that? ‘I don’t know,’ Cooke answers, ‘I’m interested in discourse.’”

Two nations have apparently skipped the “discourse” and moved straight to capitulation. Following a yearlong review, the British government has ruled that husbands can claim benefits for multiple wives, as long as the marriages are legal in the countries where they were conducted. Specifically, guidelines issued by the Department for Work and Pensions regarding the jobseeker’s allowance state: “Where there is a valid polygamous marriage the claimant and one spouse will be paid the couple rate (£92.80). The amount payable for each additional spouse is presently £33.65.”

A similar arrangement exists in parts of Canada. According to the Toronto Sun, “Hundreds of [Greater Toronto Area] Muslim men in polygamous marriages … are receiving welfare and social benefits for each of their spouses, thanks to the city and province, Muslim leaders say. Mumtaz Ali, president of the Canadian Society of Muslims, said wives in polygamous marriages are recognized as spouses under the Ontario Family Act Law, providing they were legally married under Muslim laws abroad.”

Why should the introduction of — and increasing tolerance toward — Islamic polygamy be a cause for worry in the West?

First, like so many facets of sharia, Islamic family law codifies inequality and thus contravenes both the letter and the spirit of Western jurisprudence. While guidelines that reference polygamy, such as those now regulating welfare benefits in the UK, typically employ general-neutral language, there can be little doubt regarding the very gender-specific nature of the institution as it exists among Muslims. By tacitly recognizing this practice, governments offer their imprimatur to sex discrimination.

Second, Nonie Darwish and Phyllis Chesler have noted that polygamy, when combined with other misogynistic provisions of sharia, breeds societal dysfunction. Plural unions not only inspire distrust between spouses and heightened competition among offspring. Children also learn from an early age that females are unworthy of exclusive affection and therefore hold less value than males. Moreover, if common, polygamy creates legions of unhappily unmarried young men who are ripe for radicalization.

Third, polygamy is illegal in virtually every Western state. Men who partake in such marriages while residing in the West or circumvent immigration rules to gain entry for additional spouses are law-breakers, plain and simple. Which other statutes might they feel comfortable violating in the name of their imported traditions? The mixed message sent by government bureaucrats is particularly damaging in this context. Their multicultural nonchalance undermines both the legal system itself and the foundational values that laws are intended to reflect and secure.

Fourth, the push to normalize polygamy is yet another front in the Islamists’ campaign of inches. Its acceptance would serve as a powerful salient, paving the way for the further implementation of sharia principles. This slippery slope is not lost on Tory shadow secretary Chris Grayling. Discussing the welfare imbroglio, he observed that extending payouts to multiple wives “sets a precedent that will lead to more demands for the culture of other countries to be reflected in UK law.”

While Grayling sounds the alarm in Britain, a few European nations have already enacted policies designed to combat polygamous unions. The Telegraph reported in 2004 that Ireland “has ordered all men from Islamic countries seeking residency to sign a sworn affidavit rejecting polygamy. … A man must swear he has ‘one spouse only’ and ‘has no intention of entering into a simultaneous marriage.’” Likewise, the Italian interior ministry has asked Muslim groups to agree to a “values charter” that promotes monogamous families and the equality of women.

Contrary to defeatist pronouncements by Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, these examples demonstrate that the arrival of sharia law in the West is not “unavoidable.” It can and will be avoided if the public musters the resolve to beat it back. As Daniel Pipes noted regarding the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ sudden abandonment of Muslim cabbies who object to serving passengers with seeing-eye dogs, widespread outrage is the best disinfectant. “When Westerners broadly agree on rejecting a specific Islamic law or tradition and unite against it, Western Islamists must adjust to the majority’s will.”

Simply put, the choice is ours: defend a hard-won heritage of freedom and equality, or continue slouching toward sharia. Pray that we choose wisely.

IS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION LIKE THE ENRON FRAUD?

I am passing along this EXCELLENT opinion column that ran in todays The Aspen Times:

Illegal immigration akin to Enron fraud

Soapbox

Doug Mytty
Aspen, CO Colorado

January 13, 2008

Illegal Immigration: Republicans want cheap workers, Democrats want poor voters.

America once faced a problem with systematic fraud in the financial markets which lead to scandals such as Enron. The premise is simple, by misreporting their performance, these companies gained an illegal and unfair advantage over competitors. By misreporting their numbers, their cost of borrowing money was far lower, and they didn’t have to work to actually make a “profit.” Ultimately, society — that’s you — paid $50 billion when this fraud was uncovered.

Illegal immigrant employment is fraud by another name — and costs far more. Both the illegal immigrant, and the individuals employing them, attempt to gain an unfair advantage by creating an illegal advantage over competitors. Ultimately you pay, as more wealth is unfairly transferred to the illegal employer and more bills are given to you by the illegal immigrant. An extrapolation of the Rice University Huddle Study of 1996 to 2006 yields a net economic impact of minus $70 billion, nearly all of that borne by low-income households. Mexico alone receives nearly $20 Billion per year in remittances — that’s cash leaving the U.S. economy. For those who question the net impact of illegal’s work — after all they are working — one might also ask whether Enron was a net positive, for was it not also working? The reality is that white collar fraud and illegal employment are not victimless crimes, and also further affect business and employment by creating illegal competition.

In the case of the illegal immigrant, he/she is here in America, working and enjoying the relatively good life, while a would-be legal immigrant is spending years in their home country filing paperwork, educating themselves, learning English, and earning money to show Uncle Sam that they can and will take care of themselves in America. Is it easy for someone in a third world country to raise the funds? No. However, adapting to America won’t be easy either, so this hard work in the home country effectively becomes part of the selection process.

Illegal immigration also unfairly competes against another part of the selection process: sponsoring. If the legal immigrant is sponsored (and many are), a relative in America with at least two years of full residency is working hard to show that they have approximately $12,000 for short term support costs, and the stability to cover any and all welfare given to the immigrant for a period of 10 years. Ten years? That’s right, Uncle Sam bills the sponsor for any unpaid hospital bills, welfare, public defender costs, and any “public aid” given to the immigrant for 10 years. Sponsoring offers a far more effective screening and assimilation process than government could ever provide. Think of immigration sponsoring as having a co-signer on a loan, and you are the bank.

The employer of illegal immigrants has a similar illegal advantage over his/her competitors in that the illegal immigrant has none of the above immigration costs and therefore can work for lower wages — no sponsor, no co-signer. The employer of illegal immigrants has not had to work for his/her money by finding good workers to manage, being innovative on products or services, or worked hard to find good customers. Rather he/she has only had to violate the law to ensure personal profits, just like Enron. The employer of illegal immigrants is no different than a factory that fires all American workers and sends it work overseas. However, as construction and mowing a lawn can’t really be “offshored,” the only “solution” is to bring the low wage of a third world country here. At least the offshoring T-shirt factory doesn’t stick you with the inflated hospital bills of the workers.

So is there a solution that’s immediate and relatively painless? Sure. In the wake of Enron, the Sarbanes-Oxley act required all financial reports to be signed by the CEO or CFO of the company. If there was a fraud, the person signing the report was criminally liable. As white collar guys don’t like to be lead away in handcuffs, the companies cleaned themselves up.

It would be simple to make similar change in illegal immigrant employment. Currently, there exists a Federal Pilot system for checking social security numbers. We need only enforce the provision that if social security numbers aren’t cleared by an employer using the Federal Pilot system, the ICE team arrests the owner of the company. While an illegal immigrant might not be too put out by spending a few days in the clink and appearing before a judge, I’m willing to bet that more than a few owners might not like the social stigma and discomfort of shuffling around in chains. Of course, any owners that wouldn’t mind the stigma are probably unscrupulous in other ways, so people would soon rightly identify the employer of illegal immigrants as an unsound business partner.

Currently, this is unlikely to happen. In the last 12 months, ICE reports only 91 arrests in the “employer supervisor chain.”

Illegal immigration is not a human rights issue. It’s not victimless. It is simply fraud. The debate only exists because both parties really want class warfare: Republicans want cheap workers that will work for them, while Democrats want poor workers that will vote for them. While politicians exploit this, the workers of America pay the bill.

SOLUTION FOR BRITAIN'S PRISONS AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION HOUSING PROBLEMS

I came across what could be an excellent solution, from the Netherlands, for Britain's ( and many other countries)  overcrowded prisons along with asylum seekers & illegal immigrant centers. OFFSHORE THEM AND PLACE THEM IN "BOATS"! After all Great Britain is surrounded by the sea and thus we certainly have more than enough coastal waters to house what is now an overflowing and burdgeoning numbers of asylum seekers, illegal immigrants and other criminals.

Jobs could be created for BRITISH workers ( a la Gordon Browns
boast -which turned out to be illegal as per the EU) , in making, managing & working in these floating buildings.  Certainly we would place them in coastal areas that are less than desirable.  Another added benefit would be that "residents" of the "boats" would have far less chances of fleeing and subsequently disappearing into UK general population.

Currently occupied land would be freed up for schools, housing. (or if NuLabour has there way - more humungous
mega mosques.) Our fast diminishing green spaces would be saved from furhter desecration by tons of concrete and thousands of houses being constructed by anti British NuLabourites who want the British taxpayers to house the world's poor along with the throngs of muslims and other immigrants that have descended upon us-- and threaten British culture and way of life.

In fact - I can think of LOTS of people that I think should be "offshored" - can't you?

Floating Dutch prison for illegal aliens

With building lots hard to come by, and cities reluctant to offer space for detention centres, the Dutch Justice Ministry has taken to the water to house illegal aliens awaiting deportation. Stephanie van den Berg reports.

The Netherlands already has two prison boats and this month they will open a floating detention centre to house illegal aliens in Zaandam near Amsterdam.

"We built this floating detention platform because the city of Zaandam had no building ground to offer us, but did have a mooring site," said Erik Nijman who heads up the Justice Ministry's special provisions sector.

"It's not a boat, but a detention building built much the same as we would do on dry land but floating on a moored concrete caisson," Nijman said. The floating centres cost about the same as their landlocked cousins.

Zaandam's floating platforms, which can house a maximum of 576 detainees at two men to a cell, were built to last around 25 years.

Once inside the only thing that reminds prisoners that they are not on dry land is the view of the canal and the surrounding industrial estate.

While detainees await their expulsion they are subjected to a fairly mild prison regime with the cell doors opened during the day. There is television in every cell and a communal fitness room, a recreation room, a library, a room for religious services, a film room and an arts and crafts room.

"Idle hands are the devils play things," says warden Jantien Leegwater.

"We want them to keep busy and that's why we offer such a range of activities," she adds.

The prisoners can only leave the platform for dry land when they are moved or to play sports in one of two outdoor sports domes especially designed by a Dutch artist.

In the last decade, the Netherlands has gradually introduced harsher immigration measures. As a result, a lot more illegal aliens, some 20,000 each year, need to be held while awaiting deportation.

Previously they were housed in regular jails.
"We don't want to mix the criminals with illegal aliens and this way we keep the same kind of detainees together and can concentrate the services we need like our unit which helps return people to their country of origin," Nijman explains.

"This way we can also limit the length of detention needed before people are returned to their country and that is best for everyone involved," he says.
The new floating prison will not lead to a new crackdown, the justice ministry stressed.

"We're not suddenly going to do street sweeps to round up illegal aliens to fill up this place," Nijdam adds.

The Dutch authorities do not actively hunt illegal aliens but if people are stopped or arrested in connection with other things and they turn out to reside here illegally, they end up in the special detention units.

When the platform opens on 5 November, the detainees will be mostly transferred from general prisons.

Apart from the justice's ministry's own unit to facilitate forced deportations, the detention unit will also have representatives of the International Organisation of Migration (IOM) which helps people who are voluntarily returning to their country of origin.

As it stands now the Zaandam platforms will be the last of the new wave of floating prisons in the Netherlands.

After a flurry of building activity in recent years, the Netherlands no longer has problems with its prison capacity, Nijdam explained.

"There is a lot of interest from abroad in the way we are doing things here," Nijdam says.

The building of the prison boats has also been the focus of activist groups who object to the making of migration a criminal offence – something which is in itself is a contradiction of freedom of movement in a globalising world.

NEW REPORTS SAYS USA ILLEGAL POPULATION IS BETWEEN 20 TO 38 MILLION

A new report finds the Homeland Security Department "grossly underestimates" the number of illegal aliens living in the U.S.

No surprise that the numbers of illegals living in the USA is far greater than what has been estimated by the Bush administration which has led many government agencies in a concerted effort to obfuscate the true numbers of illegal aliens living in the USA, to keep illegals in the USA as well as making sure our southern border remains wide open to allow for the implementation of the Security & Prosperity Partnership.

There is barely one area of the USA that has not felt the negative impact of rampant illegal immigration thus the higher numbers smack of realism not over estimation.

"Homeland Security's Office of Immigration Studies released a report August 31 that estimates the number of illegal aliens residing in the U.S. is between 8 and 12 million. But the group Californians for Population Stabilization, or CAPS, has unveiled a report estimating the illegal population is actually between 20 and 38 million.

Four experts, all of whom contributed to the study prepared by CAPS, discussed their findings at a news conference at the National Press Club in Washington Wednesday. James Walsh, a former associate general counsel of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, said he is "appalled" that the Bush administration, lawyers on the Senate Judiciary Committee, and every Democratic presidential candidate, with the exception of Joe Biden, have no problem with sanctuary cities for illegal aliens.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the sanctuary cities and the people that support them are violating the laws of the United States of America. They're violating 8 USC section 1324 and 1325, which is a felony -- [it's] a felony to aid, support, transport, shield, harbor illegal aliens," Walsh stated.

Walsh said his analysis indicating there are 38 million illegal aliens in the U.S. was calculated using the conservative estimate of three illegal immigrants entering the U.S. for each one apprehended. According to Walsh, "In the United States, immigration is in a state of anarchy -- not chaos, but anarchy."

Why Don't US Senators Have a "Clue" about Illegal Immigration?

The reasons are pretty simple because those elitists in their little bubble in Washington have a perfect lives with perfect top end healthcare plans, perfect and generous retirement benefits and perfect incomes (which they consistently vote to increase about every 14 months). Unlike the majority of the American people, they are never inconvenienced by or have jobs, neighborhoods or schools threatened by the hordes of illegals who penetrate our borders every day. It appears that these self important legislators really don't want to know the illegal immigration facts or have input from their constituencies.

While nearly 100% of Senators are wealthy (often from businesses or corporations where they or their spouses employ & profit from illegals) THEY only see illegals as nannies or gardeners rather than taking jobs from lower income to middle income American citizens.

Trent Lott is by far the best example:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/19/AR2007061902341.html

"I've had my phones jammed for three weeks. Yesterday I had three people answering them continuously all day," Lott said. "To think that you're going to intimidate a senator or any senator into voting one way or the other by gorging your phones with phone calls -- most of whom don't even know where Gulfport, Mississippi, is -- is not an effective tactic. But it's their right to do that."

- This blowhard whines about talk radio whipping up Americans to oppose the Zamnesty plan that he and his cohorts drafted behing closed doors with the Chamber of Commerce, Lulac, Maldaff and other socioethnic groups. Rather than admit that his phone is ringing off the hook from Americans citizens smart & concerned enough to be infuriated by his, John McCain, T Kennedy, H. Reid, G Bush et al out and out REFUSAL to listen to and do what is best for the USA he views public opinion as a "threat". An incredibly UNAmerican statement for a Senator who is elected to represent the people.

Senator Lott et al come across as a bunch of spoiled brats who are stamping their feet and howling because they couldn't sneak an amnesty bill by the American people. No wonder their approval ratings are in the toilet with record low 14% approval (if you can call it that) rating.

http://blogs.usatoday.com/gallup/2007/06/what_do_hmos_an.html

IT IS HIGH TIME THAT OUR SENATORS REMEMBER THEIR OATHS OF OFFICE:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God."

INSTEAD OF ACTING LIKE ENEMIES TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE AND THE AMERICAN CULTURE.

Illegal Immigration - Democrats being played like 3 string banjo

If voters across the USA were allowed to vote on illegal alien amnesty chances are virtually 100% that the general population would vote NO. The opponents, who like to blur the lines between LEGAL immigrants and ILLEGAL immigrants, are undoubtedly the ACLU, LaRaza,& their ilk who have deep pockets and thus hope to bankrupt towns into removing any legislation. etc. Some feel the municipalities have no right to legislate what they deem to be immigration law but other dispute this and say the States and Cities have the Constitutional right to act when the Federal Gov't fails to do so. Small towns (Farmer's Branch, TX; Hazelton, PA) to big cities have felt the economic impact of rampant illegal immigration.

Many Americans also worry about the lack of assimilation creating a balkanization of the USA.  Illegal aliens take jobs from lower & middle income Americans & repress wages. Many feel it is unfair that so many Hispanics are illegal and any amnesty will prevent people from other non contiguous countries from getting into the USA. That to grant amnesty just because so many have broken the laws is like saying that if enought people steal cars - car theft should be legalized. Most Americans vote YES on tight border security. The USA admits 2 million immigrants LEGALLY into the Country every year - more than the rest of the countries of the world combined.
Of course one also must look at the employers of illegal aliens and in turn laws should be enforce with stiff fines and jail time for doing so. Whereas the employers are a draw - the reality is that no one is dragged kicking and screaming to cross our borders or enter the USA illegally. It is a conscious choice. In this category would also go the Countries such as Mexico, etc who care so little for their own citizens that they do little to change to make life better for their them and openly encourage millions to commit illegal entry into the USA. Others such as sanctuary cities (Cambridge MA, SanFrancisco CA, New Haven, CT etc.) and some Church leaders, such as Catholic Cardinal Mahoney, are also openly flaunting the breaking of US immigration laws and both should lose any government monies OR tax deferred status.
Now the Democrats are aligning themselves with Pres. Bush in pro amnesty. I think Democrats are being played like a 3 string banjo on this one. This Rovian tactic allows Republicans show Americans that they are not for amnesty for lawbreakers and play to their base, and as previously stated, the vast majority of American VOTERS. The Dems will pay a stiff electoral price if they are seen as the party that forced amnesty.
Our legislators have ignored illegal immigration for far too long and now it is a monumental problem. The 1986 Amnesty bill/law was never enforced particularly by the Bush administration. Amnesty has been proven to promote even more illegal immigration.(Spain & USA) Perhaps self deportation thru attrition (dry up jobs and benefits) is the solution but unless our points of entry, into the USA, are closed off to illegal entry the problem will never go away. Can we trust GW Bush to do so? - perhaps the best answer to that lies one of his famous quotes:
" "Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

Do You Want the USA To Be A Melting Pot or Chunky Soup?

The erroneous ideology of multiculturalism continues to reek havoc with our American culture.  Yes, the United States of America has long been called the "melting pot" but the key word here is MELTING or different cultures and languages merging to become ONE in ONE Country - the USA.  Without this American culture one could further deduce that we stand good chance of becoming an unblended, indigestible chunky soup. Not exactly what our forefathers wanted and certainly not what thousands of brave soldiers lost their lives to preserve.
Too many people shy away from stating the obvious when it comes to illegal immigration and far too many people like to toss out the word racist at anyone who believe that rampant illegal immigration is not in the best interest of our Country especially our lower and middle income workers.(just ask Tom) Some open border activists want us to welcome the millions of people who chose to ignore our laws and immigrated illegally to the US - sorry but I don't agree. It is ludicrous to reward anyone for breaking the law and illegal immigrants have done just that. Not all are "hard working" as evidenced by the MANY with Medicaid, welfare, food stamps & other taxpayer paid benefits--none of which were available to the last large group of legal immigrants that arrived in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Our hospitals and schools are over burdened by rampant illegal immigration.
To call them "undocumented workers" when all don't work is ludicrous and is trying to mitigate their lack of legality.  It is like calling a mistress an "undocumented wife". That may sound a bit silly but really if enough people steal cars would you think that car theft should be legalized?
I agree that many employers are addicted to cheap illegal labor and do share a some of the responsibility for the throngs of illegal immigrants here in the USA but businesses are not totally responsible for ADULTS who CHOOSE to break laws and enter the USA illegally. Blaming the so called "victim" in this case is not applicable as the illegal immigrants were not dragged kicking and screaming into the USA. To believe this takes the focus off of adults taking responsibility for their voluntary adult behaviors and hide behind the so called "victimization" of intelligent people who made their own choices. Perhaps this rationalization makes it easier for some to believe we should reward lawbreakers with amnesty??
We really should also consider blaming the illegals homeland governments who would rather export their citizens (by giving them "how to" booklets and maps) rather than address & correct the country's economy and poor or lack of social services. Are they not also complicit?
Regardless, we cannot pick and choose what laws citizens or non citizens are obliged to follow - US laws must be honored.
Fair is fair -- and illegal isn't fair.
